Donald McNeill is Professor of Urban and Cultural Geography, Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University. He is a member of the executive group of the SPHERE CAG in Healthy Urban Environments. He has a particular interest in urban policy and innovation, and was an Australian Research Council Future Fellow (2012-2016) in the field of Governing Digital Cities. His current research includes understanding the governance, planning and design of health precincts.
PRESENTATION TITLE: Health innovation precincts: publics, technologies and cities
The current interest in health innovation precincts raises some interesting questions about publics, technologies, and cities. How can multiple publics be accommodated within precinct planning? How important is ‘big kit’ platform infrastructure, compared with everyday technologies, such as health apps and ‘Dr Google’? And what is the place of health innovation within the economies of contemporary cities?
