Katrina Filewood is an Aboriginal Liaison Officer at Fairfield Hospital within the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). As a Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta woman, Katrina leverages her cultural heritage and extensive expertise to drive impactful outcomes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and community engagement.
Katrina is a registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and holds a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Trauma Informed and Recovery Practice and a Diploma in Counselling and Community Services. Her professional acumen encompasses Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, Cultural Safety, Trauma Informed Practice, Community Development, and effective networking with both government and non-government agencies.
Katrina’s notable achievements include receiving the 2019 NSW People’s Choice Health Award and establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Garden at Fairfield Hospital. Her initiatives have been recognized in prominent media outlets such as SBS World News and NITV News. Additionally, her work with Aunty Roma’s Falls Prevention Programs has been nationally acclaimed and was featured in the 2023 White Paper.
Passionate about advancing health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Katrina is an active participant in ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives and is committed to fostering educational opportunities within the health sector. Her role extends to mentoring, policy development, project management, and strategic business relationship management, all aimed at enhancing cultural safety and community health.
