The 2018 Health Beyond Research & Innovation Showcase unveiled an exciting future filled with advances in innovation and technology which will benefit the people of our community and the world.
I was amazed to hear about the development of a bionic brain device to restore vision in blind people and how everyday technology such as gaming consoles can improve the lives of people with disabilities.
We heard about a future filled with robotics and other new technology and how this will guide the evolution of medicine and healthcare through the next decade and beyond.
I would like to thank our outstanding researchers and clinicians from south western Sydney and our keynote speakers for sharing their vision of the future with the hundreds of people who attended this year’s fantastic showcase at the William Inglis Hotel.
The two-day event was an outstanding success and I was thrilled to see so many staff members learning more about our research and meeting fellow health professionals to form collaborations and new networks.
I particularly enjoyed the marvellous ideas outlined in the Innovation Tank and the Battle of the Mentors competitions and I congratulate the contestants and the winners.
I would like to thank our organising committee, staff from our District and our event partner the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research for their hard work in staging this wonderful annual event, now a highlight of our calendar.
As we move into a future defined by collaboration, innovation, ideas and critical thinking, I look forward to our research moving into clinical practice and saving lives.
I hope to see you all at next year’s showcase on 5 and 6 June 2019.
